The fruit here comes from Barolo’s La Serra and Neviglie, in Roero. The parcel from La Serra offers power and structure, while Neviglie and its sandy soils give convivial fruitiness and perfume. A portion is aged in the estate’s newest Austrian oakbottifor six months (before they can be used for the Barolo), imparting sweet spice and body, with the rest kept back to ensure the balance is protected. Barbera is so joyful with a lick of new oak, and this is a brilliant expression.
