2017 Riesling, Westhofen Brunnenhäuschen, Abts E, Grosses Gewächs, Keller, Rheinhessen, Germany
Seed-inflected Meyer lemon, iodine, chalk, fusel oil and struck flint feature on the nose. That same cast of characters reprises with almost painfully concentrated piquancy, brightness and medicinal-mineral saturation on a palpably extract-rich palate. Only after some aeration does a hint of site-typical florality emerge, in the form of bittersweet perfume backed by hothouse greenery. In keeping with a vintage 2017 trend at this address – but a trend accentuated in this instance – the finish is detonative in its vibrant conveyance of energy as well as striking in its impression of chalk and stone suffusion. But beyond that, it offers mouthwatering salinity and a virtually kaleidoscopic cycle of further, ineffable mineral impressions. Drink: 2019-2037. - Vinous

2021 Blaufränkisch, Moric, Burgenland, Austria
Since 2001 Roland Velich has been crafting world-class wine from Blaufrankisch. He is determined to show that this indigenous Austrian grape has as much finesse and elegance as Pinot Noir from Burgundy. Again and again, he has proven this to be true. Vintage after vintage these are beyond a doubt gorgeous refined wines. The Burgenland bottling is his business card per se, a way to discover the potential of this grape and winemaker without a long wait, however, it has the ability not only to show beautifully now but age as well. Signature characteristics are a lovely ruby hue, high-toned aromatic blue fruits, spice, and black tea.

2022 Grüner Veltliner, Federspiel, Hinter der Burg, Prager, Wachau, Austria
Light and pure. A wine that positively dances on the palate. Fresh and floral with real palate impact. In a warming climate, is Federspiel the new Smaragd?

2021 Domaine Muxin (木杺酒庄) Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot
The wine has ruby color with a purplish edge and a glossy sheen. On the first nose,
there are scents of fresh, ripe red and black fruits: cherry, berries, blackcurrant,
and mulberry, accompanied by a refreshing hint of mint. As the wine breathes and
the temperature rises, Mu Xin 2021 Red reveals more layers and aromas, floral
scents and sweet spices emerging. The aroma is complex, precise, mature yet light.
The palate senses purity, maturity, and a crisp juiciness. 2021 has more tannin,
and it’s silky in quality. The wine has excellent concentration and structure, with
lively and well-defined acidity. The crisp fruit and floral aromas and tannins slowly
finish, leaving a lingering aftertaste. Harmonious, elegant, and balanced. -
2020 Domaine Muxin (木杺酒庄) Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot
The glass is brimming with the aroma of wild berries, violet and fresh mint,
intertwined with the scent of spices like pepper. The first thing that strikes the
palate is the upright and structured acidity brought by the high-altitude cool
climate. The tannins are elegant and delicate, maintaining a subtle balance,
restrained yet lively. The length is clean and long, with an enticing aroma of mixed
fruit tart. -
2021 Riesling, Trocken, Kiedrich, Turmberg, Weingut Robert Weil, Rheingau, Germany
Bottled at the end of June. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork.
The 2021 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken is pure and coolish on the intense and concentrated nose. From phyllite slate soils, this is a full-bodied, intense and, salty-piquant, highly stimulating Riesling with lots of energy, phenolic grip and mineral tension. With a fine tannin structure, the massive and concentrated body and fruit lead to a long and intense, aromatic finish. Long but still shy and still somewhat coated.

2013 Gusbourne Estate, Brut Reserve, Sparkling, Kent (Late Disgorged)
With 7.5 years of lees ageing, this has beautiful patisserie notes but retains layers of sweet tropical fruits. Pineapple, mangos and Amalfi lemons make up a refreshing wine with baking spices developing with time on the palate. The wine has maintained a vibrant freshness given the time spent on lees, which is a testament to the quality. Incredibly enjoyable with a selection of different seafood plates or as an aperitif.

Hambledon, Première Cuvée, Sparkling, Hampshire, England
Aromatics of wax, nuts, spice, honey and citrus abound in this one. The palate is vibrant with ripe pear and a touch of cherry, cranberry and grapefruit. A complex, mouth-filling, dense and intense wine.
Jamie Goode, Sunday Express (April 2023)
Hambledon Vineyard has a long and fascinating history. Not only does the village have the reputation as the cradle of cricket, long before Lord’s, it seems, but it is also the location of the first English commercial vineyard, courtesy of the Francophile Sir Guy Salisbury Jones, who developed the vineyards in the early 1950s.
After an uneventful hiatus, the vineyard was purchased by Ian Kellett in 1999, and his investments of both patience and capital are now yielding fruit, quite literally, in the form of some of the best-located Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes in the country. A standard-bearer for the quality England can achieve, this is a remarkably assured wine with a firm, acidic spine, complexity, and detail—great focus and precision.

2022 Grüner Veltliner, Kamptaler Terrassen, Willi Bründlmayer, Kamptal, Austria
The Kamptal region of Austria is home to some of the world’s most masterful wines, and this cuvée from Weingut Bründlmayer is an incredibly good-value window into its unique terroir and expert winemaking. The colour is a bright, straw yellow, and the nose bursts with aromatics, with ripe apples and hints of elderflower and acacia flowers. The palate is beautifully smooth, with flavours of ripe peaches paired with a mouthwatering minerality, reminiscent of the stony soils upon which the Grüner Veltliner is planted, up on the elevated terraces. This finish is long, finessed and very energetic. A versatile and immensely enjoyable wine, pair with Asian cuisine and seafood dishes.

2021 Berry Bros. & Rudd Argentinian Malbec by Pulenta, Mendoza
This wine has a fine, ripe raspberry nose with a blackberry depth and a savoury edge. The palate is ultra smooth, yet the fruit here is still juicy and fresh, reminiscent of a raspberry-and-blackberry pie. It is so generous and giving yet so integrated and harmonious. The tannins are like soft flakes which blend seamlessly on the long, damson-and-cranberry-edged finish.

2018 Berry Bros. & Rudd Tokaji Aszú, 5 Puttonyos by Oremus, Hungary
The warm 2018 vintage has produced an elegant Tokaji, delicate in colour with fine aromas of lime flowers and apricot blossom. The palate is both fresh and sweet, with concentrated notes of lime marmalade. All is beautifully balanced on a long, harmonious finish with a glorious lick of intense refreshment that makes you long for another sip.

2020 Seña, Aconcagua Valley, Chile
Balanced, intense, raspberry, bilberry, balsamic, dill, tar, grilled cedar and sandalwood. Welcoming and confident, classic Seña swagger, the balance and savoury spice notes arrive if you allow it to sit in the glass. This was a hot and dry vintage, very little rain over the winter before the season began, and the main challenge throughout was water availability. There are wells at the Seña vineyard, and their location closer to the Pacific helps moderate tempatures, but they also picked one week earlier than 2019, and upped the Malbec in the blend because it kept freshness and acidity, and helped with the aromatics. The result is more powerful and opulent than recent vinages, with an emphasis on cocoa bean and dark mint chocolate on the finish. A wine of layers that absolutely delivers on the house style, not easy to maintain in such dry vintages. 10% 2,500l oak casks for ageing, with 70% new French oak, biodynamic farming. Francisco Baettig winemaker.

2019 Riesling, Kabinett, Wiltinger Braune Kupp , Le Gallais, Egon Müller, Mosel, Germany
Müller's 2019 Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Kabinett opens with a bright, ripe and finely slatey bouquet. Round and lush on the palate, this is a medium-bodied, mouth-filling, charming and balanced Kupp Kabinett with ripe, elegant, crystalline and salty acidity and fine grip on the aromatic, well-structured finish. The 2019 already drinks dangerously well as an aperitif, but it is made to be cellared and then served with food in about 15-20 years. 9.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP 2-20 in June 2020. - Wine Advocate

2019 Riesling, Trocken, Eva Fricke, Rheingau, Germany
This dry wine tingles with life and is somehow reminiscent of wild flowers. A great tightrope of tingly fruit and acidity that is nicely judged. And this is her entry-level bottling …
Jancis Robinson, 2020 festive recommendations Ewhites, Jancisrobinson.com & Financial Times (December 2020)This Riesling displays the elegance and purity that Eva’s wines consistently produce. The jasmine floral aromas are wonderfully supported by a peachy juiciness on the palate, while a citrus and nervy acidity provides the backbone to this delicious, fine, dry wine. This is a standout vintage for Eva, and although this wine is a treat to drink in its youth, it will certainly benefit from one or two years in bottle. Drink now to 2028.

2017 Riesling, Spätlese, Wiltinger Braune Kupp, Egon Müller, Mosel
The 2017 Wiltinger Braune Kupp Spätlese (AP #4) is coolish, pure and stony on the crunchy and concentrated nose. Lush, sweet and round on the palate, with piquant, racy acidity and pervasive minerality, this is a complex and intense, lush and concentrated Spätlese with a lingering salinity and a long, precise finish. A fabulous and promising Spätlese.

2020 Riesling, Volz, Grosses Gewächs, Van Volxem, Mosel, Germany
The “Volz Ewas a single layer until 1971, which now forms part of the Wiltinger Braunfels. In the Prussian classification of vine locations in 1868, this vineyard, bordering the Scharzhofberg, was classified as a Grand Cru, in the privileged location class. The 60-year-old vines of this glorious slate slope create an exciting firework display of mineral expressiveness and the finest fruity elegance.

2021 Gantenbein, Chardonnay, Graubünden, Switzerland
The 2021 Chardonnay is deep, pure, clear and fresh on the nose that, is as slatey as chalky as well as floral and reveals a fine concentration of ripe fruits. Full-bodied, intense and elegant on the palate, this is a pure yet rich, concentrated, enormously saline and finely tannic Chardonnay with a long, intense, complex finish.
A great wine that already drinks with great pleasure but can also hold for about two decades. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork.

2019 Leeuwin Estate, Art Series Chardonnay, Margaret River, Australia
The 2019 Art Series Chardonnay is rich and savory but pure and saline too. There is white peach, red apples, curry leaf and brine. The way the flavor moves across the palate is testament to the phenolics that course through the wine; it’s all at a perfect intersect of fruit power, tannin and perfectly judged acidity. The flavor stains the palate and lingers in an unravelling spool of thread in the mouth long after the wine has gone. A stupendously good wine.

2020 Berry Bros. & Rudd Mosel Riesling Kabinett by Selbach-Oster, Germany
A classic refreshing riesling full of vitality, with notes of crisp green apple and white fruit.
Will Lyons, Sunday Times (July 2023)
Our 2020 Riesling has a fine nose of fresh green apples, with notes of pebble stones and white peach. The wine cleanses the palate with ripe, white stone-fruit flavours and a soft, gentle appeal. Delicious and refreshing, this is enjoyable either on its own or as a foil to mildly spicy food.

The always-impressive team at De Martino have made our 2021 Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon for us. Its intense aromas of blackcurrants and raspberries are balanced by savoury hints of earth, leaves, nutmeg and gravel. The palate is brimming with fresh, ripe black cherries. A mineral note of graphite runs underneath, subtly drawing in a character that is reminiscent of the Old World. Sophisticated and classy, this a refreshing, appealing and generous wine.

2016 Seña, Aconcagua Valley, Chile
The truly excellent 2016 Sea could very well be the finest wine produced at this estate that started as a joint venture between Robert Mondavi and Eduardo Chadwick and now continues under the guidance of Chadwick and the excellent hand of winemaker Francisco Pancho Baettig. The grapes were picked later in 2016, and the final blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Carmenere and 5% Cabernet Franc, with more Malbec and considerably less Carmenere than in the past. This is only 13.5% alcohol and has remarkable acidity and freshness, as well as overall balance and elegance that surpasses all previous vintages. Twelve percent of the volume matured in oak foudres, while the rest was aged in barrique (73% new) for 22 months. Even so, the wine is not oaky and comes through as harmonious and elegant within the house style. It's serious, dry and elegant, with zero concessions to sweetness. A mineral and profound red blend. 72,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2018.

The Ockfen 2019 Bockstein Riesling GG opens with an intense, dense and elegant, flinty and slightly iron-scented bouquet that displays perfectly ripe and healthy, somewhat flinty Riesling fruit with lemon chutney notes. 2019 Berry Bros. & Rudd Mosel Riesling Kabinett by Selbach-Oster, Germany
This delectable Riesling is one of the most thirst-quenching wines that you could ever wish to taste. Made for us by the brilliant Johannes Selbach, it has fresh green apple and apricot aromas, lifted by the scent of meadow wildflowers. The flavours are invigorating, with bright apple freshness persisting alongside more tropical notes of kaffir lime leaves and a twist of white pepper. There’s a hint of sweetness on the otherwise palate-cleansing finish, making this a perfect match for Vietnamese dishes or a Gorgonzola salad.
