2023 The Sadie Family Wines 'T Voetpad Die Distriksreeks Swartland

Name means “The footpath” in Dutch and refers to the isolated vineyard where the old vines used to make this wine comes from. A multi varietal field blend of Semillon Blanc, Semillon Gris, Palomino, Chenin Blanc and Muscat d’Alexandria. The wine is fermented in foudre and left in casks for 12 months on yeast lees. What is revealed is a complex nose of fresh lime, wet stone, cream, apricot and herbs. Sipping the wine reveals that it needs time to evolve with subtle and somewhat neutral presentation of lime citrus, mineral and herbal elements. The texture is soft, creamy and plush, but balanced with an acid base. The finish is extended, layered and finessed. Intrigued to see what characters emerge in time. Drink- 2028 – 2042.
