2017 Beaune Rouge, Les Aigrots, 1er Cru, Domaine Sébastien Magnien

Sébastien’s vines are at the top of the vineyard, abutting the famous wall of Clos des Mouches (another example of this domaine’s clever and judicious acquisitions). The higher part of the vineyard is often planted with Chardonnay, as was this parcel until 1990. Therefore, Sébastien has used 50% whole-bunch to round out any angularity. The wine is beautifully ripe, almost lush, but couched in a powerful frame. The terroir gives a bounce to the finish, which is also held by chalky tannins. Drink 2023-2035
