2018 Château Malescot St Exupery, Margaux
Deeply coloured, the nose offers great aromatic purity, with blackberries, cassis and dark cherries joined by a hint of smoke and coffee bean. It is beautifully complex. On the palate, the wine opens up with a rich and opulent structure. Velvety tannins combine with dark fruit, plum, spicy pepper notes and a touch of dark chocolate. The 2018 is a wine of power Eharmonious and concentrated with a lingering mouth-feel. Drink 2024-2035.

2017 Ch. Figeac, St Emilion
At Ch. Figeac, production is down by almost a half but we still think the quality is high and under the guidance of Frederic Faye it continues its upwards trajectory. A blend of 43 percent Merlot, 47 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 10 percent Cabernet Franc, it has a
deep purple colour with charming aromatics of small, red berry fruits, violets and liquorice. Once in the mouth there is a silky, mouth filling texture with a graphite and a mineral note finishing with a pleasing graphite grip. It has a long, persistent finish. Less density and opulence than 2015 or 2016 but it is pure in tannin and focus. A truly great Cabernet Sauvignon wine.{***}{region}St Emilion{region} {color} Red{color} {maturity}laying-down{maturity} {maturity-text}For laying down{maturity-text} {vintage}2017{vintage} {ratings}

2017 Auxey-Duresses, 1er Cru, Domaine Roulot
Roulot's only premier cru bottling of red grapes, the Auxey is perfect for those who enjoy an ethereal, mineral-driven style of Pinot Noir. The nose presents a harmonious medley of dark berries and spice, while the palate echoes the taut, crystalline character of the domaine's white wines. A chalky core underpins this red that will drink beautifully for at least the next decade.

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Corbeaux, 1er Cru, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Bruno Clavelier, Burgundy
A decidedly earthy nose freely offers up ripe and very fresh red pinot aromas laced with underbrush and sauvage wisps. The sleek, punchy and beautifully well-detailed medium-bodied flavors display fine length on the mildly austere finale that flirts with rusticity. - Burghound 90-92/100

2018 Etna Rosso, Giovanni Rosso, Sicily, Italy
The Nerello Mascalese vines were planted in 1975, the vineyard is rooted on the slopes above Solichhiata at 750 meters asl. The 2017 represents Davide’s second vintage release since he partnered with local Etna hero, Alberto Graci. Soft maceration of the skins, aids this wines aromatic complexity and graceful structure.
The nose is fragrant and inviting, rose, violet, prune, rosemary mixed with cranberry, blood orange, white pepper & strawberry leaf. There is delightful immediacy of fruit on the palate, just delicious. But also savoury depth and striking minerality and poise. The tannins are silky, well managed from the time spent in mixed French oak.
Although proudly Sicilian in style, there is a unquestionable resemblance in style to Davide’s beloved wines of Serralunga d’Alba. With crunchy fruit purity and mineral grip you can identify his style, as he uses the same sensitivity which has made him famous for expressing Nebbiolo. Characterized by Davide’ signature polish and power, this is SO enjoyable now but will develop.

2018 L'Etoile, En Banode, Domaine de Montbourgeau, Jura
A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Savagnin, this is in essence a mini Vin Jaune, aged for a year in oak foudres (casks) before going into barrel for the “sous voile” ageing for a further two years. The La Banode vineyard was planted in 1970 and gives wines that are powerful but delicate. The warm and dry 2018 vintage has yielded a generous yet saline wine with notes of salted almonds and citrus zest.
Drink 2024 - 2030

2017 Château Marsau, Francs-Côtes de Bordeaux
A lovely property in the tiny appellation of the Côtes de Francs, the 2017 Marsau is deep ruby in colour with attractive aromas of bright redcurrants and wild black cherries, courtesy of the juicy Merlot dominance in the blend. Medium bodied on the palate with crunchy red fruit and silky, integrated tannins. A touch of chalkiness to the acidity brings a freshness throughout, and a purity of red cherry and forest fruit sits at the heart of this crowd-pleasing style.
Suave and finely textured, a very decent effort which will drink well from 2020 - 2026+.
