From Grands Crus to Your Glass: A Blanc de Blancs You Can’t Resist

11 MINUTE READ • Fri, Aug 29, 25

Just tasted last evening, we’re thrilled to introduce a rising star from the Côte des Blancs - Les Frères Mignon. This emerging producer has created a wine NV Les Frères Mignon: L'Aventure Blanc de Blancs that impressed our entire team.

Brothers Julien and Florent Mignon are based in the Côte des Blancs in Cramant, where their family has a long history of grape growing. They set out on their own under this new guise in 2014, with their first harvest being 2016. Having inherited enviable plots in Grands Crus Avize and Cramant, as well as 1er Cru Cuis, the certified organic estate is currently overwhelmingly planted to Chardonnay (90%, with the rest being Pinot Noir). Without the style of the wines being remotely ‘funky’ or divisive, the production methods here are decidedly minimal in intervention: indigenous yeasts, no fining and no clarification. L’Aventure is the inaugural cuvee of the estate and sources fruit from Cuis, Avize and Cramant. This edition (2021 base) was disgorged in November 2024 at 3.2 g/L of dosage.

The two brothers produced only 6000 bottles per year and are part of this new generation in Champagne to watch.

About the wine

Our Hong Kong team tasted this dangerously good champagne; it makes you want to keep refilling your glass. Vibrant Blanc de Blancs with citrus and buttery pastry aromas. Unexpectedly sweet initial impression despite low dosage. Light, clean palate balanced by bright acidity. Creamy texture develops as it warms. Long, mineral finish.

The project is still relatively new so it might fly under the many critics, but William Kelly saw their potential and advised readers to watch this producer, as you can read from the note below. As we'd really like our customers to taste this exceptional champagne, we're offering it at the best price on the market, with an additional brace price for orders of 3 bottles and above.

In 2014, brothers Florent and Julien Mignon left the local cooperative, producing their first wines in 2016. Working the vineyards largely without chemicals, vinification is carried out with little in the way of sulphites, and tirage is now under natural cork. Most of the fruit comes from the village of Avize, supplemented by grapes from their native Cramant, Cuis and Cumières. Their first release hit the market in 2019, so this is very much a new project, but these precise, chiselled wines already show plenty of promise and are well worth readers' attention. I look forward to following the Mignon brothers over the years to come. – William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
