2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge, Champs de Morjot, Domaine Philippe Colin, Burgundy
Champ de Morjot' Rouge 2021 is made from 100% Pinot Noir from Chassagne-Montrachet. Juicy, crunchy, and full of ripe fruit flavour; it has vibrant notes of strawberry, juicy raspberry, vanilla and cherry. The palate is firm but smooth, balanced with a good level of acidity and more fruity flavours along with some oak and earth. Drinking well now, but will only get better over the next 5-10 years.

2021 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Les Hauts de la Combe, Domaine Joseph Colin
From two plots so now called Les Hauts de la Combe to bring in the names of the two lieux -dits. This has been bottled without fining or filtering. Pale colour, light yellow fruit, but again these are not high levels of ripeness. Very slight confection at the back but a good volume of fruit and excellent clean acidity.

2018 Saumur Rouge Les Chapaudaises, Domaine Guiberteau
Bright ruby red color, the nose expresses complex hints of berries such as black currant, blackberry, slightly smoky and mineral notes. In the mouth it is fresh with delicate tannins, good balance and long sip that ends in a mineral finish..

2021 Chinon, Philippe Alliet, Loire
On the nose and palate, this wine was vibrant. Great fruit flavours with darker fruit as well as blackberry leaf. This slightly hedgerow nature is incredibly autumnal in nature. Slight forest floor notes show a layer of complexity that should not be available in a wine of this price. The length is incredibly respectable, and the balance and friendliness of this wine make it particularly engaging.

2020 St Aubin, Compendium, Joseph Colin, Burgundy
It comes from 9 plots in seven lieux-dits so Joseph may choose Les 7 Terroirs. Pale lemon colour, a light reduction to the nose. Lime notes on the palate, very much a classically crisp St-Aubin, with modest flesh but fine persistence. - Jasper Morris

2021 Bourgogne Rouge, Benjamin Leroux
The element of this Bourgogne Rouge that comes from Benjamin Leroux’s own fruit was down 40% in the 2021 vintage, while the market price for grapes at this level was up 120% - so he had to buy carefully. Benjamin opted to use whole-bunch fermentation on the regular components of the blend, and is pleased with how the new purchases have fitted in. The wine is very pleasing and easy, with lots of soft and sweet red fruit flavours.

2015 Horsepower Vineyards Syrah The Tribe Vineyard
Of these three offerings from Horsepower, the 2015 Syrah The Tribe Vineyard will require the most time, as it's the most tight-knit at this early stage, slowly unwinding in the glass with savory aromas of raw cocoa, tapenade, nori and ripe blackberries. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a rich chassis of satiny structuring tannins and a layered, umami-laden core of fruit. At 13.6% alcohol, it's also beautifully balanced. 2016 Cayuse Vineyards, Cailloux Syrah, Walla Walla Valley, Washington
The 2016 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard is co-fermented with 4% Viognier in a Côte-Rôtie style that delivers a red and black-fruited nose with a floral grip and rustic rockiness. It is medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a soft smokiness and olive notes, resulting in an exquisite and structured wine with a focus on terroir. It is thoughtfully balanced on the long-lingering finish with a tannic edge and lifting acidity. This is really well-made wine with a production of only 829 cases. Drink 2019 - 2040. 2016 Les Lions de Suduiraut, Sauternes
The pale lemon coloured 2016 Lions de Suduiraut gives up quite earthy scents of fungi, moss and fallen leaves over a core of peach preserves, dried apricots, poached pears and orange marmalade. The palate is beautifully layered with stone fruit and citrus notions, framed with just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy.

2021 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune, Chardonnay, Domaine Denis Carré
The 2021 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc has a satisfying nose, admirable presence and freshness. Jasmine and potpourri scents emerge with time. The palate is well-balanced and lively, with good weight with a subtle menthol note towards the finish. What's not to like?

2020 Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly, 1er Cru, Château du Clos, Burgundy
Outstanding. A slightly riper if otherwise similar nose precedes finer if not denser flavors that coat the palate in sappy dry extract that imparts a seductive mouthfeel to the bone-dry, youthfully austere and compact finale that is noticeably more tightly wound. In contrast to the straight Pouilly-Fuissé, this is going to require at least a few years of patience and should repay 5 to 8 years of cellaring. - Burghound 91-93/100

2018 Champagne Leclerc Briant, Millésime, Extra Brut
Produced with 50% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, and the rest Meunier, the 2018 Champagne Millésime Extra Brut was vinified and raised for nine months in barrels. It sees 3 grams per litre dosage and was disgorged in March 2023. It pours a rich, youthful yellow hue and is forward in its expressive notes of toasted oak spice that are very assertive and joined by notes of toasted croissant, orange marmalade, white pepper, and ripe red berries.
Full-bodied, it has a lush and pillowy mousse and a fantastic texture, filling the palate with ample fruit, a chalky texture, and a rounded and fleshy personality. Although, at first, it feels as if its oak is not well-integrated, it impresses me more as it opens and is approachable in its ripe fruit now. It’s long on the palate and is a very well-made wine, but I’d like to see how this harmonizes over time.

2014 Volnay, Les Lurets, 1er Cru, Camille Giroud, Burgundy
20% whole clusters
Subtle floral nuances add a touch of elegance to the spicy red currant and cherry-suffused nose. Once again, there is a sleek mouthfeel to the mineral-laden middle-weight flavours that possess lovely delineation. All this is wrapped in a moderately austere finish where the acidity is mildly drying.

2017 Cayuse Vineyards, En Chamberlin Syrah, Walla Walla Valley, Washington
The 2017 Syrah en Chamberlin Vineyard is unmistakable on the nose, boasting an intensely framed Syrah that offers up generous and juicy dark fruit, framed by meaty, umami and savory expressions of olive tapenade, black pepper and charcuterie before drifting back to aromas of violets and lavender. Full-bodied and firmly structured, the wine is built like a tank, revealing layers of complexity and elegance that are supported by fine-grained tannins and rocky minerality across the mid-palate. With power and finesse, the wine somersaults in the mouth, before leading to a long, impressive conclusion that continues to develop in length. Only 365 cases were produced of this stellar wine. Yum! - The Wine Advocate

2021 St Aubin, Oratorium Sancti Albini, 1er Cru, Domaine Joseph Colin, Burgundy
Oratorium Sancti Albini is an ancient name for St. Aubin; the blend is composed by four 1ers. A markedly restrained if pretty nose grudgingly offers up its array of citrus, floral and mineral reduction notes. The racy and very sleek medium-bodied flavors exude a bracing salinity on the firm, compact and linear finish. This is notably austere and a bit lean though my sense is that this will flesh out with bottle age. With that said, I would advise buying this only if you have the intent to cellar it. - Burghound

2011 Meursault, Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Burgundy
The 2011 Meursault Village is the first to be blended with the parcel of Clos des Baronnes acquired from Domaine Manuel. It was assembled in tank around January and bottled around early June. It offers an attractive bouquet with hints of wild honey, orange blossom and quince. The palate is refined on the entry but then motors up a few gears toward the finish with hints of brioche and popcorn infusing the citrus fruit. There is good richness here for a Village Cru. Drink now-2020.

2014 Mazoyères-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Benjamin Leroux, Burgundy
Relatively subtle wood treatment allows the notably floral red berry fruit, humus and earth-inflected aromas to shine. There is excellent volume to the delicious and tension-filled medium-weight plus flavours that exhibit fine depth and length on the moderately austere and saline-inflected finish. This is quite firm and somewhat rustic and the supporting tannins aren't especially refined, so once again patience will be required.

Pale lemon colour. The bouquet is exuberant, with a little touch of liquorice and some acidity; this has density and quality, but what about personality? Good wine, as it happens, but I understand it is a hard sell.
